Dutch Vocational Schools in the Green Sector

Scalda Groen, Terra and Aeres are leading vocational schools (MBO institutions) in the Netherlands, each dedicated to practical, career‑oriented education in agriculture, food, environment, and sustainability. Together, they train thousands of students every year in hands‑on programs that connect directly to regional industries and communities. Their strength lies in combining classroom learning with applied practice – from crop production and animal care to food technology and climate‑smart innovations. By equipping young professionals with skills for the future, these schools play a vital role in building resilient food systems and sustainable rural economies across the Netherlands.

As partners in “Water voor het Oosten” (Water in the East), launched in late 2025 alongside Saxion University of Applied Sciences, SkillEd, and regional companies, the Dutch Vocational Schools contribute to developing sustainable water management solutions while providing students with practical skills to strengthen communities in the eastern Netherlands.
